The Following are the rules as set forth for standard Sport Blowgun Target Competitions, either indoors, or outside. These rules are adapted from the International Sport Blowgun Association (ISBA)
- The Target will be the STANDARD 10-METER TARGET. This target consists of 5 targets, each target with an outer ring of 9 cm, and two inner rings of 6 cm and 3 cm. The rings are valued at 7, 5 and 3 points, from the center.
- The center of the target should be 63 inches or 5 feet 3 inches from the floor.
- The shooting line is 33 feet (11 yards) or 10 meters from the target.
- One round consists of five shots, one at each target, within 3 min.
- A full competition shall consist of 6 rounds per competitor.
- At no time while shooting, may the competitor’s foot or any body part cross the firing line. If they do, the points for that shot will be recorded as zero.
- After each round, the scoring official will record the score, after which the shooter may recover the fired darts.
- Maximum length of the Blowgun shall be 120 cm (47 inches). If a shooter wishes to use a longer blowgun, the firing line is moved back one inch for each inch or fraction thereof, for each excessive inch of length.
- There is no restriction on caliber or dart shaft size.
- The shooter may mount any accessories they wish on the blowgun, within the scope of these rules.
- The maximum dart length shall be 10 inches, including cone or flight.
- Any shot that touches a scoring line shall be awarded at the higher point value.
- Any Dart that does not remain in the target, or rebounds from the target, will be allowed to be reshot one time. The Second score is recorded.
- If a dart is dropped at the firing line, it may be retrieved with the use of the Blowgun, but the shooter may not cross the firing line with any body part. If the dart cannot be retrieved, the point value is counted as zero, unless the shooter has extra darts on their person or blowgun.
- The shooter must have at least the required number of darts on their person or mounted on the blowgun for one round. No one shall hand or otherwise touch the shooter’s equipment while they are on the firing line.
- If a shooter shoots more than 5 shots in one round, the highest value points are deducted from the score, equal to the excessive number of darts fired.
- Fixed non-light projecting front sights is permitted. (no laser sights or rear sights)
- Each Dart must be fired with lung power only. No mechanical means of firing a dart are permitted.
- A Handicapped Shooter who wishes to, or must, shoot from a sitting position, shall use a target mounted 3 feet from the floor to the top edge of the target. At the judgement of the scoring Official, handicapped shooters may use a rest for the front of the blowgun tube, as long as the base of the rest is behind the firing line. This rest may support the tube, but must not be affixed in any manner to the any part of the blowgun.
- The Official shall decide any other problems or disputes.
- Tie scores will be decided by a shoot-off of three darts.
- The target shall be affixed to a foam backstop of not less than 2 inches thick. This backstop must be at least as large as the outer most dimensions of the paper target.
- The shooter may swab or clean the barrel of their blowgun at anytime, however the 3-minute restriction applies while shooting.
